History

The South African Pet Traders Association was established in 1990 as new legislation forced the Pet Traders to work together to form a unity for representation and protection of their interests. A committee was elected and good relationships were formed with various Government / Nature Departments, SPCA’s and other Pet Welfare Organisations. After hard work and commitment from the committee, SAPTA today exist of 200 members.

SAPTA is continually growing to be a successful association who represents their members and to provide support and guidance to all their members. SAPTA’s main responsibilities is to protect our member’s rights to trade and for upholding the standards of the Pet Trade Industry.

Membership is open to any Pet Trade Business and is voluntary. SAPTA members will qualify for discount on all training courses arranged through SAPTA. On completion of these courses, SAPTA will issue certificates. SAPTA managed to arrange special rates for all members on the credit/debit card machines. Please enquire about these rates at info@sappettraders.co.za. SAPTA will apply for fish permits on your behalf. All SAPTA members qualify for discount on fish permits. SAPTA will continually keep you up to date with new legislation.

In order to become a member of SAPTA, you will have to complete an application form and commit in signing our Code of Ethics. There is an annual membership fee and the info is on the application form. Once you have completed your application form, kindly send it back via email or fax. Once payment were made and confirmed, SAPTA will forward brochures, a certificate for your store/business, the Code of Ethics as well as monthly newsletters to you. Your business will be listed on SAPTA’s website.
